I rarely leave reviews, but I feel obligated to share my experience.
I encountered ongoing issues with lack of communication, delays, and a failure to take necessary steps to advance my case. Despite making repeated attempts to obtain updates-and even doing much of the groundwork myself, including drafting proposed agreements, providing supporting documentation, and submitting multiple rounds of redlines-there was little meaningful progress.
Most concerning was that after I made a formal request for updates on outstanding matters, I was characterized as uncooperative, despite that concern never being raised at any point during the representation. This characterization is directly contradicted by my documented efforts to move the case forward.
I have worked in the legal field for quite some time, and in my experience, this level of communication breakdown and lack of follow-through is unacceptable-particularly in matters involving divorce and child custody, where timely action is critical.
Read on GoogleI hired Amira in November of 2025 to finalize my divorce, which should of taken only a week or so. It has been over 3 months and she has failed to do anything but file a waiver. I'm unfortunately out $500 and still need my divorce decree so that my family can move forward with our lives. It's not just a piece of paper I need- I can't buy a house until I receive it and she has put a standstill on my children and I from moving into a home of our own. She has completely abandoned my case, refuses to respond to any communication, and lies about her intentions. Please do not hire her.
To top it off, I've also, spoken with other clients she has open cases with and she has done the same to them. She will be reported for unethical behavioral to the LA Bar Association.
Read on GoogleIf I could go lower than a one star rating, I would. This person has no business taking on cases. She gets paid and disappears. She must be chased to do her job. I don’t know how she shows her face in public knowing how she operates and leaves people who are in very sensitive situations, hanging. We have never seen anything like it. Look at the other reviews and believe them. She will not fight for you like she says. She will ghost you and cause YOU stress and grief while you’re locked in, having given her the money to help you in a vulnerable time of need. She doesn’t answer ANY form of communication in a timely manner. Ironically, her website states that communication is key but that is laughable and deceptive. You have to keep begging for attention to the matter you have paid for. Then to find out that she’s not only neglected to FILE the matter….but lies about it, does not follow up and doesn’t communicate. If you want to babysit a lawyer, hire this one. Everyone that has had this issue with her, needs to contact the Louisiana State Bar Association. Do not give her your money.
I heard about Amira Makke through a friend and retained her as my lawyer for a simple modification of a custody case in March of 2025. It was suggested by others to look at the reviews that involved not responding to clients, but I didn't give that a second thought after our first meeting because she answered most my questions and seemed very concerned, and able to fix things as it pertained to my case. The day I met with her at my initial consult, she insisted that she would make copies of my original documents. However, I have never received those back and I still haven't seen those again after asking for them quite a bit. Amira allowed me to put a lump sum down and make payments until the full fee was paid in full. I'd like to say that was the only positive thing that came from that agreement, but unfortunately two cash payments I gave her were never recorded or given credit on her end towards my balance. Regretfully, I did not ask for receipts nor ask for copies on the spot of my original documents. Nothing happened until July of 2025 when my children's mother was served. Two court hearings were postponed by the other attorney as they requested a few things of me that Makke suggested I do. She assured me after that, the other attorney could ask nothing of me and her exact words were "checkmate", there is nothing else they can do to stall. That was the beginning of September and as the end of October rolled around with no news, I began to reach out. I finally got in touch with Makke after my calls and texts were avoided. This lasted from September through mid December when I decided to end her legal counsel. I attempted to contact her several times for 3.5 months and there were only a few times she would call back. When we spoke, she seemed to forget what we spoke about on our prior phone call and I had to ask the same questions again and was told it would be taken care of and "a court date would be scheduled." She did apologize a couple times for the delay, but she continued to do the exact same thing. She said "if you want to get ahold of my, contact me on my cell for better communication." She avoided the entire case and came up with every excuse under the sun as to why she hadn't gotten back with me or as to why a court case was not scheduled. Her responses to other reviews, she pretends to grow from the negative feedback and to improve her business. That is not accurate as she runs her business the exact same way. It is a business that disregards clients in every way possible. She has caused extreme headache and heartache for both my children and myself because of the unnecessary delay. After speaking to other attorneys and someone at the court house, they were astonished that Makke completely ghosted me and took my money with her. I was told nothing had been done with my case since the beginning of September. I never received one written or electronic contract outlining our contractual agreement. I received nothing in writing except one thing she billed me for that was never completed. I need my funds back to retain an ethical, moral, honest, professional, and diligent attorney to represent myself in regards to this case. The more bothersome thing is that she sleeps at night and is unphased by the serious impact the delay in my case has caused me. Not one time, has she responded to my request for original documents back nor one penny of the money she was given for services that were not rendered. I would have never signed up for an attorney to do 2% of would be services and I do not have it financially made to just hand over funds just because. That is callous and low down on so many levels. I am so disappointed I had so much faith in her, but I have to remind myself she put on a good show at first to make me believe she was something she wasn't. Hopefully no rebuttal is made after this post, the damage has been done, but can be fixed. If you are considering her for legal representation, RUN! If your case has been neglected by Amira Makke, consider making a complaint with the LA Bar Association.
During the consultation and a few follow-up phone calls, Ms. Makke seemed professional and attentive. Unfortunately, that level of communication did not continue. After initially being somewhat responsive, she ultimately ceased communication entirely and did not follow through with updates in regards to the case. One can assume there is nothing to update when NOTHING is being done with the case. I personally did not have a case with her, but someone very close to me did. It broke my heart to watch the emotional toll this put him through when he was so hopeful and trusting in Ms. Makke.
The first thing you notice on her website in large writing on is that COMMUNICATION IS KEY. Oh isn't this ironic because that has not happened in anyway, shape, or form.
Throughout this process, there was a pattern of false hope, misdirection, and repeated assurances that were never followed through. This led to significant emotional and financial strain for someone close to me that trusted her. She always had a reason or excuse as to why she could not give him updates or why nothing has been done on the case; such as being busy with other cases or having a sick child; while personal circumstances are understandable, they do not justify months of inaction, lack of communication, or failure to meet professional obligations. This shows who Ms. Makke is as a professional and it reflects her poor character traits. The lack of concern for this case in so many ways shows that not only is she lacking in her professionalism, but that she lacks a moral compass. This is absolutely disgusting, formidable, and heartbreaking.
After consulting with a few other attorneys, it became clear that the delays experienced in this case were not normal or reasonable. It was confirmed that no meaningful progress had been made in 3–4 months during a period when specific actions should have taken place. Additionally, the only paperwork submitted was deemed insufficient for the intended modification. Other attorneys were also surprised that there was only a single receipt provided, with no written contract, no monthly statements, no docket number, and no documentation demonstrating what work—if any—had been completed.
While I acknowledge that Ms. Makke may have had successful outcomes in other cases, this experience showed us a very concerning lack of accountability, organization, follow-through, or regard with her client’s life, and how her lack of care or leading someone on negatively impacts so much behind the scenes. All clients deserve transparency, timely communication, and consistency throughout their case. All of us make mistakes in life, but owning up to them and rectifying them is what we should all strive to do. Pay the money back! In my opinion, this is THEFT.
The loss of a year due to inaction has had an impact on the trajectory of this case. Given the minimal work performed relative to what was promised and paid for, reimbursement should have already happened. Had it been clear from the initial consult that only a fraction of the agreed-upon services would be provided, payment would never have been made.
I hope this review encourages greater accountability, rectifying and addressing the wrong that has been done, and more consistent treatment of all clients moving forward.
