Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information Cypress Counsel (the “Site”) collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. Read it with the Terms of Use and the Disclaimer. Last updated: October 24, 2026.
1. Information we collect
- Basic visit information. Like most websites, our hosting provider records technical details when you visit, such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you request, and the date and time.
- Visit statistics. We use Vercel Web Analytics to count visits and see which pages are used. It records things like the page viewed, the site you came from, your browser and device type, and your country or region. It does not use cookies and does not follow you across other websites.
- Searches. The names, places, and practice areas you search for are sent to our database to return results. We do not need an account, and we do not ask you to sign in.
- The assistant and the home page box. What you type is sent to our AI provider so it can match it to a topic or a search. See Section 6.
- Messages to the site team. If you use the chat box, we collect your message, any contact details you choose to add, the topic button you picked, and the page you were on.
- Listing requests. If you use the claim or correct a listing form, we collect your name, email address, the type of request, who you are in relation to the listing, what you want changed, and, if you give them, your phone number and Louisiana bar number.
Please do not put confidential or sensitive information in any of these. That includes case details, the names of other parties, Social Security numbers, medical details, and immigration status.
2. How we use information
- To show search results and run the Site.
- To route what you type to the right topic or search, and to show lists you asked for.
- To read and answer messages, and to review requests to claim, correct, or remove a listing. We check these against the Louisiana State Bar Association directory before changing anything.
- To keep the Site secure, prevent spam and abuse, and limit how often a visitor can send messages or make requests.
- To understand problems and improve the Site.
3. Who we share it with
We use service providers to run the Site. They handle information only to provide their service to us, under their own terms and privacy policies:
- A hosting provider, which serves the Site and records visit information.
- A database provider, which stores listings, chat messages, and listing requests.
- An AI provider (Anthropic), which reads what you type in the home page box.
- An email service, which delivers alerts about new messages and requests to the Site’s operator.
- Google, for ratings, reviews, and maps. See Section 7.
We do not sell the information you send us through the chat box or the listing request form. We may disclose information if the law requires it, to protect people or the Site from harm, or in a sale or reorganization of the Site’s business.
4. Listing information about attorneys and firms
Attorney and firm listings are compiled from public sources, including the Louisiana State Bar Association’s public member directory and the Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board’s public eligibility records. Listings can include names, firms, business addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, websites, admission dates, and practice areas. If you are listed and want a correction or removal, use the claim or correct a listing form or write to inquiries@cypresscounsel.com. Removing a listing from the Site does not remove it from the original public sources.
5. Cookies, advertising, and similar technologies
The Site does not currently set advertising or analytics cookies, and it does not currently show advertisements. Our visit statistics (see Section 1) do not use cookies.
We plan to show advertisements in the future. When we do, the companies that deliver or measure those ads (ad networks, ad servers, and analytics providers) may place or read cookies, web beacons, pixels, and similar technologies on your browser or device. They may collect your IP address, device and browser type, the pages you view, and the ads you see or click. They may use that to show you ads, to measure how ads perform, to limit how often you see an ad, and, in some cases, to show you ads based on your activity across different websites.
- We do not control these companies or what they collect. Their use of information is covered by their own privacy policies, and we will name them here before ads begin.
- You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. You can also use industry opt-out tools, such as optout.aboutads.info and networkadvertising.org/choices. Opting out does not stop ads from appearing. It may only make them less relevant to you.
- Blocking cookies may affect how parts of the Site work.
- Some browsers and devices offer a “Do Not Track” or similar signal. There is no common standard for it, and the Site does not currently respond to such signals.
6. The assistant and the home page box
When you type a description of your situation or a request into the home page box or the assistant, those words (up to 300 characters) are sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, so that it can match them to the closest topic or search. The AI is used only to route you. It does not give legal advice, it does not recommend any attorney, and what it returns is checked by the Site before it is used. We do not save what you type there in our database or link it to your name. However, it travels in the page address (the web address you see in your browser), so it may appear in your browser history and in our hosting provider’s records. The AI provider processes it under its own terms and privacy policy.
Do not enter confidential or sensitive information. If you are in danger, call 911.
7. Google maps, ratings, and reviews
- Maps. Listings link to Google Maps. If you choose Show map, your browser loads a map from Google, and Google may collect information about your visit, such as your IP address and cookies, under its own privacy policy. Nothing is loaded from Google until you ask.
- Ratings and reviews. Firm pages and some lists may show a firm’s Google rating and reviews. The Site’s server retrieves them from Google, and they are written by Google users and shown as Google provides them. Your browser does not contact Google to show them. If you click a link to Google, you go to Google, which has its own privacy policy.
- Distance searches. “Closest first” results use the city or ZIP code you type. We do not look up your exact location or ask your device for it.
8. How long we keep information
We keep chat messages and listing requests for as long as we need them to respond, to keep a record of corrections and removals, and to meet legal and business needs. After that we delete them or remove identifying details. Information held by our service providers is kept under their own policies.
9. Security
We use reasonable measures to protect information, such as limiting who can read messages and requests. Visitors to the Site can send messages and requests but cannot read them. No website or email can be made completely secure, so we cannot guarantee the security of what you send.
10. Your choices and rights
- You can use the search and Browse pages without giving us any personal information.
- You can ask us to tell you what we hold from a message or request you sent, to correct it, or to delete it. Write to inquiries@cypresscounsel.com and include enough detail for us to find it.
- Depending on where you live, the law may give you additional rights over your personal information. We will honor those rights as the law requires.
11. Children
The Site is for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us information, write to us and we will delete it.
12. Links to other sites
The Site links to websites run by others, including attorneys’ and firms’ own sites and Google. We do not control them and are not responsible for their privacy practices.
13. Changes and contact
We may update this policy. Changes take effect when posted, and the date above will change. Questions about privacy can be sent to inquiries@cypresscounsel.com or through the contact page.
